The team that created SY Black Pearl was awarded with the "Best Naval Architecture Sailing Yacht" Award at the Boat International Superyacht Design Symposium 2019 in Cortina.

Dykstra Naval Architects created both the hull envelope and the advanced DynaRig sail plan. At 106.7m overall SY Black Pearl is an enormous yacht built by Oceanco, with a hull that still manages to look sleek with enormous loads generated by a sail area in excess of 2,900m2 spread over three unstayed, rotating masts. The design mission was to deliver a top speed of 25 knots under sail and achieve it on a yacht with a 7.23m draft and 2,550 tons displacement at full load. In addition, the owner wanted a "zero impact" yacht capable of emissions-free cruising. To this end, the yacht has a sophisticated diesel-electric propulsion system optimized with an assist by Lateral Naval Architects using two main diesel engines and electrical motors connected to variable pitch propellers. Substantial battery capacity provide for house loads and peak shaving. Shaft generators powered off propellers that can be adjusted for optimal pitch at any sailing speed return carbon-free electricity to the batteries when the boat is under sail.

JK7 Velsheda Wins the Superyacht Cup Palma 2018!

The in 1933 built J Class Yacht JK7 Velsheda took overall victory at the Superyacht Cup 2018.

A dramatic day on Palma Bay saw the final outcome of the 22nd Superyacht Cup hanging in the balance until the final moments of competition.
Once the spray had settled at the end of the deciding St. Regis Mardavall Race the overall trophy went narrowly but deservedly to the famous J Class yacht Velsheda after an inspiring performance over the three days of Europe's largest and longest-running superyacht regatta.

The venerable Velsheda, built in 1933 and since lovingly restored and regularly optimised by Dykstra Naval Architects, took two wins from three races in Class B to finish level on overall points with the superketch Mari-Cha III, taking the class and the overall Superyacht Cup title on countback.
